Tacton

Tacton perceives an increasing demand for climate calculations early in the sales process.
Many of Tacton’s customers are manufacturing companies. With increasing pressure from legislation and their own customers, these companies want to be able to perform climate calculations early in the sales process — already during the quotation stage. Tacton saw an opportunity to integrate an LCA software into their CPQ solution, and the task was given to SimaPro.
Automated calculations using SimaPro
In collaboration with PRé Sustainability and Miljögiraff, Tacton has developed configurable models in SimaPro. These models, connected through an API solution, have been seamlessly integrated into Tacton’s CPQ interface and ecosystem. This enables LCA calculations to be performed automatically and in real time, without the involvement of external LCA experts.
With LCA data and the Environmental Footprint Configuration, Tacton supports manufacturers with emissions data covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This enables them to quantify and optimize the environmental impact of their products throughout the entire product life cycle — from material selection and energy consumption during use to transportation and end-of-life.
Successful pilot project with elevators
To demonstrate the solution’s potential to perform live calculations of economic parameters and environmental results for complex products, a pilot project was carried out based on a fictitious Tacton customer. The prototype illustrates how the solution can be used in the customer’s sales process. Elevators were chosen as the example product since they are complex products where each elevator sold must be configured according to the specific requirements of each end customer.
Through close collaboration between Tacton, PRé Sustainability, and Miljögiraff, Miljögiraff’s expertise in LCA modeling of elevators was utilized to build an elevator model in the SimaPro Online Platform. This model was interconnected and developed in parallel with the model for the fictitious elevator company in Tacton’s CPQ tool.
The result was a working prototype in Tacton’s CPQ tool with a fully configurable elevator, where LCA results for a customer-specific elevator can be calculated at the push of a button.
The solution is the first of its kind, but Tacton, Miljögiraff, and PRé Sustainability all believe that the automation and digitalization of climate data represent the future. Through SimaPro’s robustness and its ability to integrate with various business systems, we can act as a stronger driving force for sustainable development.
Tacton is the leading CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) SaaS partner for automating design-to-sales processes for industrial manufacturers.
