How does an EPD tool work?
An EPD tool connects your product data with the LCA model behind the environmental calculations. In simple terms, it consists of three parts: an interface where you enter product information, an LCI database containing the background data needed for the calculations, and an LCA model built in SimaPro.
An API connects the interface to the LCA model, allowing you to enter product-specific data and calculate the environmental impact without having to work directly in the LCA model yourself. The same quality-assured setup can then be reused across multiple products, making it much easier to scale up your EPD work.

Integrated LCA Software – No Static Index Lists
Miljögiraff builds tools that are integrated with LCA software, where data is used to calculate environmental impact directly. SimaPro has been a leading LCA software solution since 1990. In 2024, SimaPro Synergy was introduced as a cloud-based solution designed to make LCA capabilities easier to integrate into other software through APIs.
